A New Chapter Starts Here

My newest video is finally live, and it is one of the most personal projects I have ever made for this channel. I flew all the way to Seoul, walked into one of the busiest beauty stores in the city, and spent hours talking with women from around the world about what they were buying and why. The result is my video on Musinsa Beauty — a name that most American shoppers have never heard of, but one I believe you are going to be hearing a lot more about.

I did not want to just drop the video on this page and walk away. A video can show you a store, but a blog post lets me slow down, explain my thinking, and give you something you can come back to when you are actually ready to shop. So in this post, I want to tell you the full story: why I made this trip, what I saw and heard in Seoul, and what this blog is going to be doing for you from now on.

If you have ever felt frustrated buying K-beauty online from the United States, this post is for you.

What American Women Were Telling Me

Let me be honest with you from the start. For a long time, I have partnered with Olive Young, and I still do. Olive Young is one of the biggest names in Korean beauty, and many of the products I have recommended over the years came from there.

But over the past several months, something kept coming up in my comments, my emails, and my conversations with readers here in the US. Women who had started shopping K-beauty through US-facing online stores were not happy. Not with K-beauty itself — they loved the products — but with the experience of buying them from America.

The complaints I heard most often fell into a few patterns:

  • Prices that felt much higher than in Korea, once shipping, fees, and markups were added up
  • Limited selection, with many of the brands they saw on social media simply not available
  • Popular items going out of stock, sometimes for weeks
  • Slow or unpredictable delivery, which is painful when you are waiting to restock a daily essential
  • A feeling of being an afterthought, as if the US store was a smaller, less exciting version of the real thing

I will admit, some of these stories genuinely shocked me. My job — the whole reason this channel, this blog, and my shop exist — is to help you find great Korean beauty products without the guesswork. If the women I serve were feeling let down, I could not just keep recommending the same things and hope for the best. I needed to look further.

Why I Got on a Plane to Seoul

I could have done this research from my desk. I could have read press releases, scrolled through product pages, and written a list of “brands to try.” But that is exactly the kind of content I promised myself I would never make.

If I was going to introduce a new company to you, I wanted to see it with my own eyes. I wanted to touch the products, compare the prices on the shelf, and — most importantly — hear from real shoppers who were not being paid to say anything nice.

So I booked a flight to Seoul and headed straight to Seongsu-dong.

If you have not heard of Seongsu, think of it as Seoul’s answer to Brooklyn. It is an old industrial neighborhood where former factories and warehouses have been turned into cafés, galleries, pop-up shops, and flagship stores. Today it is one of the most important shopping districts in Korea for both fashion and beauty, and it is packed with international visitors.

It is also where Musinsa has built something like its home base. Musinsa started as an online fashion platform and has grown into one of Korea’s best-known retail names. Over the past few years, it has opened a whole cluster of stores in Seongsu, and its newest and biggest one, Musinsa Megastore Seongsu, is home to the company’s first physical beauty store. That was my destination.

Inside Musinsa Beauty

Musinsa Megastore Seongsu opened in April 2026, and it combines fashion, beauty, and lifestyle under one roof. The beauty floor is on the second level, and it is big — roughly 7,500 products from about 700 brands, according to The Korea Herald. That is not a small corner of makeup next to the clothing racks. It is a full beauty destination.

A few things stood out to me right away:

  • The crowd was global. Musinsa reported that foreign customers made up about 64% of all shoppers at the beauty store during the first half of June 2026. Walking through the aisles, I heard English, Japanese, Spanish, French, and Chinese, often all at once.
  • It is built for visitors. Musinsa offers product information and reviews in multiple languages inside the store, and even has AR-based try-on for color contact lenses. You do not need to read Korean to shop confidently.
  • It mixes big names with brands you have never heard of. Alongside well-known Korean labels, there are smaller and newer brands, plus Musinsa’s own makeup line — which, interestingly, sells more to foreign shoppers than to Korean ones.
  • Shopping does not stop when you leave Korea. Musinsa says it is linking the brands people discover in its stores to its online Musinsa Global Store, so international customers can keep buying after they fly home.

That last point mattered a lot to me. There is no point in me getting you excited about a brand if you cannot actually buy it from the US. The fact that Musinsa is clearly investing in international, online shoppers is one of the biggest reasons I decided to start covering it.

What International Shoppers Told Me

The heart of this trip was the conversations. I stopped shoppers from different countries — many of them women around the same age as my readers — and asked them simple questions. What brought you here? What are you buying? How does this compare to buying K-beauty back home?

You will see many of these conversations in the video, but here are the themes that came up again and again:

  • “I can actually test things.” Many shoppers said the biggest difference was being able to try textures and shades before buying, instead of guessing from photos online.
  • “The prices make sense.” Several women were surprised at how affordable many of the products were, especially compared with what they had paid for similar items at home.
  • “I found brands I had never seen before.” This came up constantly. People came in for one or two products they knew from TikTok or Instagram and left with something completely new.
  • “I want to keep buying this after my trip.” Almost everyone I spoke with asked the same question I had: how do I get this once I am home?

Listening to these women, I felt something click. The frustration I had been hearing from American shoppers was not about K-beauty. It was about access. These shoppers had found a place where the selection was wide, the prices were fair, and the experience felt made for them. My goal became simple: bring as much of that experience as possible to you, wherever you are.

My Promise: Only Products That Earn Their Place

Starting today, this blog becomes a home for Musinsa Beauty products — a space where I introduce them to American women, one carefully chosen product at a time.

But I want to be very clear about one thing: I am not going to recommend everything Musinsa sells. With thousands of products on the shelves, that would be useless to you. Instead, every product I feature here has to pass a simple set of standards:

  1. Verified quality. I only feature products I have personally tried or that have a strong, consistent track record of real reviews. If I would not use it myself, it does not go on this blog.
  2. Fair price. Every product has to hold up on price against comparable products from other major K-beauty retailers. If you can get something just as good for less elsewhere, I will tell you.
  3. Real performance. Texture, wear time, how it works with different skin types — I look at what matters in daily use, not just packaging and hype.
  4. Available to you. I focus on products you can actually buy from the US, so you are not left falling in love with something you cannot get.
  5. Honest notes. If a product has a downside — a strong scent, a shade range that is too limited, a texture that will not suit oily skin — I will say so.

In short, the products you see here will be ones that can stand shoulder to shoulder with anything from any other company, in both price and quality. That is the bar. If a product does not clear it, it does not make the list.

This also means my relationship with other brands and retailers does not change my honesty. I will continue to recommend great products wherever they come from. My loyalty is to you, the reader — not to any one store.
